Will not handle 80 lbs! A pain to use with only 50 lb load

I have a 1/2 acre lawn adjancent to a golf course in Smithfield VA. Our lawn is a fine fescue blend that I work hard to keep in great shape. I'm not a Master Gardener, but I am a member of the Cypress Creek garden club, and do quite a bit of tropical gardening also (to see the yard, go to webshots and search for "landscaping in southeastern virginia").
I bought this spreader after using an old Scott's spreader that had worn out, hoping that it would be easier to push. It was very easy to assemble, but was missing a nut upon arrival (luckily I had what I needed on hand).
I have had great success in greening up my yard by putting down Scott's Crabgrass Preventer with Halts in February, and I just finished putting down 2 bags of it today. Each bag covers 18,000 sq ft. I am a fairly strong man, and I have to say that this spreader is NOT what I had hoped when I bought it, as I put one bag in at a time, and it about wore me out. I now have a headache from using it, and will replace it with something else before the next time I have to fertilize or overseed the yard.
I bought the spreader based on the glowing reviews here on Amazon, and in this case, it was a mistake. One thing I think is a problem is the handle design - it's not very ergonomic. I believe a "T" shaped handle would work much better than the "U" shape it has. The current handle does not feel natural when pushing it with a full load (and by full I mean only 50 lbs, NOT 80lbs as advertised), especially when trying to manuever it around corners. I consistently found myself changing hand position, going from holding it with both hands on the cross bar, to changing my hands to holding it on the outside edges. Neither is very comfortable while pushing a heavy load.
Also, whenever I hit a dip in the yard, it tends to dip forward letting some of the fertilizer spill out of the front of the bucket when full. If you don't gather this up, it will cause the grass in that area to die from too much fertilizer.
For all the rest who rated it high, I hope you enjoy it, and best of luck with it. For me, I'm looking elsewhere for my next one.
Comment:
Had various cheap spreaders before this one. Wider tires on this model make it easier to push through the thick St. Augustines grass here in central Tx. Sturdy build and large hopper plus the even spreading on this model make it a great buy. More expensive than Scott's models sold in the big orange store but a much better product.
Comment:
Save yourself the frustration of buying a cheap [Scotts] spreader from one of the box stores and go right to the best. This model is sturdy, has a large capacity so you don't have to reload every 2-minutes, pneumatic tires for a smoother more consistent ride and is compact enough that it will not take up all of the space in your garage or shed when not in use.

Comment:
I wanted a better product than what I was finding at Lowe's and Home Depot but I did not want to pay the hefty price for a commercial spreader. I searched Amazon and found the product I needed. After receiving the spreader, it was exactly what I was looking for. If the manufacture was to ask me how to improve it I would tell him to install a deflector sheild that could be changed from one side to the other at a reasonable price. I have not tried it but Scott's spreader has one and it looks like it does what it is suppose to do.
